Matt's gecko's
About the Organization
The Matt's Mildly Inconvenienced Geckos Foundation exists to address the silent, systemic, and chronically underfunded crisis facing the Hemidactylus frenatus (common house gecko) population of Southeast Asia: mild inconvenience. Not death. Not endangerment. Not habitat loss. Mild inconvenience. We are the first and only philanthropic organisation globally dedicated to identifying, cataloguing, and remediating the everyday micro-frustrations experienced by geckos who, through no fault of their own, find themselves living adjacent to humans, ceiling fans, fluorescent lighting, and the occasional unattended bowl of pad see ew. Each year, an estimated 2.7 billion geckos across the ASEAN region experience what our research team has termed Sub-Acute Lifestyle Friction (SALF), including but not limited to: - Being startled by a toilet flush at 3:47am - Falling off a wall mid-stalk and having to pretend it was intentional - Catching a moth that turns out to be slightly too big to swallow with dignity - Witnessing a human scream at them, then scream at the human screaming - Mild ceiling fan-induced anxiety (CFIA) - Tail autotomy regret - Being photographed by tourists without consent or model release forms Despite the staggering scale of this crisis, 0% of global philanthropic funding is currently allocated to gecko quality-of-life improvements. We aim to change that.
